Pipe thawing frozen Water Services up to 2’’ can now be done quickly and economically with Swiftee- the new portable electric powered pump from  CATCO. It's a powerful positive displacement gear pump designed to pump the hottest water that you can supply to it.  It develops pressures of up to 150 PSI which creates a thin stream of water from the end of flexible 5/16’’ nylon tubing while keeping actual water usage to as low as 1.5 gallons per minute. The process is done while the supply line is live by the use of a unique pressure fitting which is attached to the water service before the thawing operation begins.  This fitting, called an ‘RP’ fitting,  allows the passage of the nylon tubing to be pushed into the service but also has a drain outlet so that excess water resulting from the thawing process can be recirculated to the suction pail or to a nearby drain source.  When the service is thawed the on-rushing water can be diverted out the side of the RP fitting without damaging the area and without drenching the operator. The nylon tubing can be removed from the service and the cellar valve can be shut off and the plumbing reinstalled to normal. The ‘RP’ fitting allows the service to be thawed without turning off the Curb Stop.
The Swiftee was developed in collaboration with large water departments in the Northeast U.S. who funded research and development to produce thawing equipment that was safe and effective.

Swiftee comes equipped with adjustable relief valve, pressure gauge, a 150’ roll of 5/16’’ nylon tubing, ‘RP’ kit, suction hose, step by step operating instructions with operating techniques.  The pump is mounted on a corrosion resistant platform with a wraparound steel frame. All you have to add is water.

Users have reported that the Swiftee  is so effective that it thaws frozen services even with cold water!!  Introduced in 1980 the pump is used by dozens of Municipalities, Contractors and Rental Houses for it’s Safety, Speed and effectiveness
