Model 510 is built to the standard 83Khz radio frequency

Model 530 is built to the High Frequency of 330 Khz frequency.  This High Frequency allows the Model 530 the capability of getting its signal into old iron and steel lines as well as copper and tracing wire more easily than the Model 510.  The high frequency allows the signal to 'jump' old conductively poor joints between sections of steel & iron gas and water lines.  The high frequency transmitter will also induce its signal into a pipe more easily than the model 510 when a direct connection can't be made making the 530 the best for 'BLIND SEARCH' locates.

For utilities that have a wide array of different pipes- tracing wire and tracing tape the Model 530 is the hands down best choice.
