The Model 480B Pipe and Cable Locator is Metrotech's  newest updated version of the classic 'split-box' location tool. This versatile locating instrument is applicable to every industry in which underground pipe and cable locating is required.  In addition to its standard inductive and conductive capabilities it features a passive Electric line locating mode for detecting the presence of underground energized power lines simply and quickly. The 480B has crystal controlled electronic circuitry that gives clean, no-drift response providing the operator with longer ranges and greater accuracy.  Automatic battery test feature measures voltage when the unit is turned on.  Automatic battery shut-off will alert the operator after 30 minutes of non-use and turn off the receiver to save battery power.  Transmitter shuts off when cases are clipped together for storage.

The 480B shown in use. In this instance it's being used to track the wires from the vault by using the direct hook up method. When the hand held receiver comes in parallel alignment with one of the wires an audible tone is heard and a built in meter visually shows the increase in signal. The operator receives both an audio and a visual signal.

The three section Carrying Handle (#200766) can be used with any 480 Series model.  It couples the Transmitter and Receiver together creating a long range metal detector capable of locating wires,  manhole covers, metal barrels, septic tank rebar grid, etc.
