The Metrotech Model 220 Locator is designed to precisely locate valve boxes and other metallic devices buried under soil, pavement,  or concrete.  Operating depths are dependent on the size of the target. The larger the item the deeper it can be located.  Generally this unit is effective to 24" deep on articles buried by utilities for access.

The 220, with performance proven over many years of use, has been widely used by utility companies, construction companies, municipal departments, surveyors, engineers, groundskeepers and explorers.   The 220 reacts to either magnetic or non-magnetic metals.  It will locate copper, brass, aluminum, gold and silver as well as steel and cast iron objects.  Applications include the location of paved-over manhole covers, valve boxes, meter pits, property markers, grave markers or other concealed metallic objects.

The 220 operates inductively and the search disc includes both the transmitter and receiver antennas which create an electromagnetic field when activated.  Any interruption of this electromagnetic field by a metallic object causes both a visual reading on the meter dial and an audible signal from either the plugged in speaker or optional headphones.

The 220 is very compact weighing in at only 3.5 pounds and is easily carried and operated in one hand. It has an extendable stem which allows the user to stand upright while keeping the search disc at ground level. When not in use the locator can be folded up and stored in its low profile foam lined carrying case. The case has room for the speaker and the optional dual headset.
