Electro-Scan
One-step Sewer Leak Detection & Location
The
One-Step
test that detects
ALL
types of pipe defects that are potential pipe leaks including:
faulty joints, pipe cracks, defective service connections.

Infiltration/Exfiltration evaluation tools since CCTV |
The Fell-41 "Reads" and
locates cracks and faults in non metallic Sewer/Drain or Vacuum lines. The line
under test is verified and cleaned with a standard Water Jet. The Sonde is
mounted on to the end of it’s own fiberglass pull cable. The Sonde is pulled
down the line by retracting it with a standard jet hose. The jet hose is removed
and the line is plugged. The line is then "surcharged" or filled with water. The
Sonde is prepared for use when it is surrounded by water supplied from the jet
or from normal service flow. The Sonde is activated and begins to emit an
electrical charge that travels through the water that surrounds it. The
electric winch reel is activated and the sonde begins travel through the pipe.
As the Sonde travels through the pipe the electrical charge that it emits is
constantly searching for a break or crack or some other type of defect in the
line. A break or crack lets the electrical charge escape temporarily to earth
ground. Whenever this occurs the strength of the electrical loss is measured
by the FELL system software. This loss can be measured and plotted on a standard
Windows XP laptop computer as to the size and length of the crack or defect.
The exact location of these cracks and defects are plainly shown on the screen
allowing the technician to pinpoint precisely where the line needs to be
repaired. This information can be uploaded to another computer and/or it can be
printed out on the spot for verification and analysis and shown to the customer.

A quantitative
test that eliminates the guesswork from SSES for I/I.
A quick,
accurate and repeatable QA test for both new and rehab projects
Applicable to
non-conductive sewer pipes - laterals, mains interceptors and trunk lines.
Turns the I/I
Rehab budget into "smart money" that returns full payback in a few years
Locates
pipe defects within inches
Assessment of pipe defect size
Simple and accurate
Rapid coverage and low cost
Reliable and repeatable
Continuous testing along pipe
Test at any time of the year
Principal of Operation:
Clay, plastic,
concrete, reinforced concrete and brick pipes are electrical insulators
--the walls of
such pipes have high resistance to electrical current.
--the water in
the pipe has low electrical resistance
--the ground has
low electrical resistance
--the TOTAL
electrical resistance between the electrodes is very high due to the pipe wall.
--a defect in the
pipe that is a potential water leak will decrease the pipe wall resistance.
--the current
flow in the circuit will increase.
--the size of the
current increase is related to the size of the pipe defect
Operation:An electrode is
placed in the pipe (sonde)
Another
electrode is placed on the surface (metal stake driven into the ground)
The water in
the pipe is set at a level that ensures that the pipe is full at the sonde
location.
An electric
voltage is applied between the electrodes.
The sonde is
pulled through the pipe
The current
flow between the electrodes is measured every 0.5 inch.
The
electrical current increases whenever the sonde reaches a pipe defect
